Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
Last updated: 25 October 2026
The short version. SleepWell does not collect your data. It has no account system and sends nothing to us. Its only connections are to Apple: the App Store, for the free trial and the unlock, and — only if you turn on the weather on the clock — Apple's weather service, with your approximate location. Everything it records stays on your device, and deleting the app deletes it all.
If anyone else shares the room, record only with their knowledge and consent — recording someone without it may be illegal. See Recording other people.
Nothing is collected by us. SleepWell operates entirely on your device, and recording and analysis work with no internet connection at all. The one exception is an email you choose to send us — see Contacting support below.
All of this is stored in the app's private storage area on your device. It is not accessible to other apps, and SleepWell does not transmit it anywhere. Video, audio and clips are excluded from iCloud and computer backups. Session records and measurements are included in your device's backups, as any app's data is, if you have backups turned on.
SleepWell needs camera access to detect movement. In Auto Analyze & Delete mode, camera frames are scored for motion in memory and immediately discarded — the video is never written to disk and cannot be recovered afterwards.
Depth mode. On iPhones with Face ID you can choose to read movement from the Face ID sensor's depth measurements instead of the camera picture. Depth readings are scored in memory and discarded in the same way, and no picture or video is ever kept in this mode. SleepWell uses the sensor only to measure distance; it does not use Face ID and never recognises faces.
Microphone access is optional. It is requested only when audio is actually going to be used for that session. You can turn audio off in Settings at any time, or decline the permission — sessions still record, just silently.
Live view on Apple Watch. If you open Check framing in the SleepWell watch app, your iPhone sends small pictures of what its camera or depth sensor sees to your own paired watch, a couple of times a second, over Apple's encrypted connection between the two. They are shown and discarded; nothing is saved on either device, and the pictures stop within seconds of leaving that screen. They are never sent anywhere else.
Noise measurement in Auto Analyze & Delete mode. A separate setting — off by default, and explained before it can be switched on — lets you measure night noise in that mode. With it on, the microphone listens during the session: loudness is measured, and snoring and talking are recognised, in memory as the sound arrives. No audio is written to storage; only the measurements are kept. With it off, the microphone is not used in that mode.
Sleep-talk clips in Auto Analyze & Delete mode. A further setting, also off by default and explained before it can be switched on, keeps short clips of the moments talking or whispering was heard. The last few seconds of sound are held in memory only, so a clip can begin just before the talking was recognised; nothing else is ever written. Clips can include anyone talking in the room, and stay on your device until you delete them.
The weather is off unless you turn it on, and SleepWell explains it before it does. With it on, SleepWell asks iOS for your approximate location — never your precise one — and sends it to Apple's weather service (WeatherKit) about every half hour while the bedside clock is on screen, to get your local conditions. SleepWell does not keep your location or send it to us or anyone else. Apple states that WeatherKit uses location only to provide the forecast, does not associate it with you, and does not track it between requests. Turn the weather off, or turn off location for SleepWell in the iPhone's Settings, and nothing more is sent.
If you choose a photo for the clock's background, it comes through Apple's photo picker: SleepWell receives only the photo you pick, with no access to the rest of your library. A copy is kept in the app's storage on your device until you choose another or delete the app.
The free trial and the unlock are bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and your Apple Account; we never see your name, email address or payment details. The app asks the App Store, on your device, only whether this Apple Account has started the trial or bought the unlock.
If you tap Contact support in Settings, your own mail app opens a message to us with the diagnostic log attached. You can read the whole log in Settings first, and nothing is sent unless you send the email. We use what you send only to answer you.
We do not share your data, because we never receive it. Nothing is sold, transferred, or disclosed to third parties.
You can choose to share data yourself — exporting a CSV of your sleep history, or saving a recording to your photo library, or sending a recording's video through the share sheet (by AirDrop, for example). Once you share a file with another app or device, that app's own terms and privacy policy govern what happens to it.
You are in control of everything SleepWell stores:
These actions are immediate and permanent. Because nothing is sent to us, there is no copy for us to delete and no way for us to recover deleted data.
SleepWell is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. As the app collects no data at all, no personal information from a child of any age reaches us.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. If a future version of the app ever collects data — which is not the current design — that change will be described here before it takes effect.
Questions about privacy: support@itotallyneedthat.com with "SleepWell" in the subject.
These terms apply alongside Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which governs your licence to use SleepWell.
SleepWell is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. It measures physical movement using your phone's camera or depth sensor. It cannot diagnose, treat, or monitor any medical condition, including sleep apnoea, insomnia, or any sleep disorder.
Do not use SleepWell to make health decisions. If you are concerned about your sleep, or you believe you may have a sleep disorder, speak to a qualified healthcare professional.
SleepWell reports how much you moved during a session. It does not measure or report sleep stages such as deep or REM sleep, and none of its figures are clinically validated.
Noise figures report loudness: how much of the night was louder than your room's own quiet level. Snoring and talking are sounds heard in the room, recognised on your device by Apple's built-in sound recognition. SleepWell cannot tell who made a sound — you, a partner, a pet or anyone else — and recognition can miss sounds or mistake one for another. Do not use these figures to assess sleep apnoea or any other condition.
Accuracy depends on how the phone is positioned, lighting, whether you share the bed, and other factors outside the app's control.
SleepWell is made for recording yourself. If anyone else could be seen or heard while it records — a partner, a child, a guest, anyone sharing the room — you are responsible for making sure that they know they are being recorded and agree to it before you start.
You are solely responsible for how you use SleepWell's camera, depth sensor and microphone, for the recordings you keep and share, and for following every law on recording and privacy that applies to you. I Totally Need That LLC never receives, sees or controls your recordings. You agree to indemnify I Totally Need That LLC against any claim arising from your recording or sharing of another person in breach of these terms or the law. This section is not legal advice: if you are unsure whether a recording is lawful where you are, do not record anyone else until you have checked.
SleepWell is a paid app with a free trial. It is free to download; the 7-day trial starts when you begin your first night and gives full use of the app. After the trial, recording new nights needs a one-time unlock at the price shown in the app. There is no subscription and nothing renews. Nights and recordings made before then stay available whether or not you unlock. Payment and refunds are handled by Apple under its own terms.
Your licence to use SleepWell is granted under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, linked above.
SleepWell is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that a session will always record successfully.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I Totally Need That LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of SleepWell, including lost recordings, lost data, or decisions made on the basis of its measurements.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which I Totally Need That LLC is registered, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
